Congress should move to stop the theft of online

The theme of the age of the Internet is that people who have grown to expect online access to content being free, after they or someone else pay your Internet service provider for access.

Fierce fighting was under way in Congress on stopping Online piracy Act, an act which will eventually create a way to stop the theft of copyrighted material and punish those who did it or facilitating it.

As in most policy debate in Congress, ammunition in combat is money. On the one hand the interests of a large entertainment conglomerate such as Disney, television, music producer, publisher-who spend billions of dollars that produce copyrighted content and generate billions of dollars that sold it. On the other hand is your Internet service provider and technology company that produces the means by which intellectual property stolen and distributed for “free.” Sides are pouring money into lobbying and Congressional campaign funds.

Content producers have a best case. They have to pay for content, production, want to get paid for it and, by the copyright law, are entitled to the payment. Technology companies claim that the Bill would stifle innovation, but one has to wonder about the value of innovation in the cause of content theft.
